Puppy Training
The first few months of your puppy's life set the tone for everything that follows. Malia's in-home puppy program covers bite inhibition, crate training, early socialization, leash introduction, and foundational household manners — all delivered in the environment where your puppy actually lives.
The critical first 8 weeks at home
The period between 8 and 16 weeks is your puppy's primary socialization window — experiences during this time shape their temperament for life. We focus on positive exposure to household sounds, surfaces, handling, and gentle introductions to new people. Missing this window does not mean all is lost, but working within it gives you a significant head start.
House training and crate training
House training is the number one concern for new puppy owners, and the number one source of unnecessary frustration. I teach a structured schedule-based approach paired with crate training that builds your puppy's bladder control and confidence in their crate as a safe space. Most puppies show reliable house training within two to three weeks when the protocol is followed consistently.
Bite inhibition and mouthing
Puppies explore the world with their mouths — that is normal. But unchecked mouthing becomes a serious problem as your puppy grows. I teach graduated bite inhibition techniques that preserve your puppy's natural play drive while teaching them that human skin is off limits. This is one of the most important skills a young dog can learn, and it must be addressed early.
Building a training plan for your household
Whether you are navigating your first puppy or adding a new one to a multi-dog household, every session ends with a clear training plan tailored to your puppy's breed, temperament, and your family's daily routine. Everyone in the home learns the same cues, the same rules, and the same reward markers so your puppy gets consistent guidance from day one.
